Where did you get the idea that Aristophanes was a myth? Are you confusing him with Aesop?

He played an important part in a classic episode of TV's "The Odd Couple."  For anyone who hasn't seen it, Felix and Oscar were contestants on the game show "Password."  When the password was "bird", Felix confidently gave Oscar the clue:  "Aristophanes."  After they lost, Felix explained that it's a well-known fact that Aristophanes wrote a play called "The Birds."
