It's nice to know that young music-makers get some support from their families. Unfortunately, it's not always the case. I was at the Royal Festival Hall a few weeks ago when a youth orchestra, made up of young players from London and the West Midlands, was giving a free performance. There were 150 performers, so based upon an average of 1 parent per child, plus some adoring grandparents, etc, I would have expected to see at least 200 family members supporting them. In fact the only adults with the youngsters were about 20 teachers and perhaps just 15 people who appeared to be family members :(
