Just finished reading Susan Hill's 'A Question of Identity', the penultimate in her Simon Serailler series. Would strongly recommend these is you like crime drama with a lot of family life thrown in. I love her style of writing.
Ray Winstone`s autobiography. I wouldn`t recommend it though - it`s boring. Before that I was reading Up In The Air by Betty Riegel who was a British girl who worked for Pan Am in the swinging sixties which was an enjoyable read.
Just started Shutter's Island. I am enjoying it very much. I have Snakehead ready to read after, by Peter May. I can recommend him as an author.. Especially his Chinese series.
Nick Hornby - Funny Girl.
Where Three roads meet. Freud is ill and is visited by a ghost and they discuss the Oedipus Myth.
The Kings Mistress - by Emma Campion - very good

I'd recommend Pillars of the Earth and the sequel World Without End by Ken Follett.
I'd also recommend anything by the author 'Sarah Waters' of Tipping the Velvet fame.
have just reread all 3 of Jeffrey Archers 'Prison Diary's' (each one a quick read...read them all in two days) Have just started 'Freddie Mercury. The biography' by Laura Jackson. I love biographies.
^^ you will learn more about 'real life' prison from reading Archer's 'Prison Diary' trio than a life time of TV and newspaper stories. Every one should read them before commenting about prison being a holiday camp.
Would highly recommend Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins series.
Asa Briggs book on his time at Bletchley Park
Later Prof of History at Sussex

If you cant add - dont do Bletchley,
Give this book a miss quite honestly

And Archer's only ONE account. I could tell a lot more if I wrote MY diarys (as could any ex prisoner).
I think I might buy his books, Nailit/Eddie.
ummmm,
I have to say that I dont think much of Jeffrey Archer as a person (but then again I dont know him), but his prison diarys were as honest as a person can be in his situation and his novels are un-put downable. Try one novel and I can gurentee you will be hooked.
Got my copies of the 'Prison Diary' for 50p each in a charity shop.
^^cheapskate^^ lol
I'm reading Susan Hill's "In the Springtime of the Year"... a very gentle novel about loss and love. I always enjoy her novels...and really should have a go at her crime novels also.
I'm also reading " Eat the Yolks" by Liz Wolfe...about how our modern fear of dietary fat is unfounded. Very enlightening.
Question Author
Thank you all very much for your answers so far. Please keep them coming! Nailit,, you say you love biographies,I thoroughly recommend Norman Wisdoms one also Jim Davidsons one, both very good read..
I would recommend "Do No Harm", by Henry Marsh.
The memoirs of Dr Marsh, a neurosurgeon.
He has retired now, and this tells of his triumphs and disasters in brain surgery.
Very readable.
