It is quite thought provoking to see a naked disabled pregnant women. It is similar to the venus de mylo that we have always accepted as being beautiful and not grotesque as disabled people are generally thought to be! And being disabled myself are applaud her courage to be pillaried in traf sqr.

g, there is no more perfect a site for this sculpture!!
I must throw in my lot with Georgit and Chessman. I think that in Trafalgar Square, which is, after all, a place that celebrates national splendour, the statues should commemorate people or events that have been of great national importance. Nelson defeated the French and Spanish. This lady depicted by the new statue has been through a lot but her struggle has been personal rather than on behalf of the nation, and belongs, therefore, elsewhere. If it is a piece of art then it should be among other pieces of art; if it is a monument to her achievement in overcoming her difficulties then it should be in a place appropriate to that - by a maternity hospital, perhaps (which might remind of the fallibility of medicine) - but I feel that Trafalgar Square in not the place for it.
My relief that it will only be there for 18 months is tempered by the monstrosity that will follow! What a pile of junk that is - a far greater scandal.
