I've read most of his books. He's a really nice chap. When he lived up at Malham (Yorkshire Dales) his son used to come down to Keighley for athletics training - I was a coach - and Bill brought him and hung about in the draughty hut until the session ended and he could pick son up. He did spend some of the intermediate time scribbling.
When my younger daughter and I had a mad fling at the end of her gap year she persuaded me to fly to New York and drive up through New England and one day we called at his house for refreshments.
