If I buy a book marked 'uncorrected proof' what does this mean? What errors should I expect?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.They are usually hardback-sized, but paperbacked books sent out to the trade as sweeteners and as early review copies to the press. Most of the time they are exactly the same as the published copy, though they occasionally contain few extra typos and I seem to recall reading one where the ending in the published novel was edited somewhat differently.
Most are clearly marked as not to be resold, so unless what you are buying is a collectable (they are sometimes signed/numbered) or very cheap I'd be a bit wary.
