Apple Itunes Main Library Page - Alaphabetical Artists Listing
I've been using iTunes since 2007 and have had little or no issues.
However, something odd happened last night. I downloaded a song by The Common Linnets direct from the iTunes Store.
Once it was downloaded, I opened the main music A-Z list and looked for the track by the above band under the 'C' artists but, guess what, it wasn't there. Eventually, I located it in the artists beginning with the letter 'T' sandwiched between The Temptations and The The.
For the last 9 years all music added to iTunes on my set-ups which involve artists beginning with the word 'The' have always been alphabetically listed by a band's main name. As a result, songs by The Beatles and The Byrds appear in artists beginning with the letter 'B', The Smiths in 'S' The Jam under 'J' and so on.
I went into 'Get Info' to manually and typed 'Common Linnets, The' in order to see it resyncronized under 'C' but although it appeared as I amended it, it stubbornly refused to leave its position as a 'T' artist listing.
Has anyone come across this in the past. FWIW, I haven't recieved any updates on iTunes since about 12.1.2 about a year ago

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I sometimes have to manually sort my music by dropping the "The" from the title of the band/artist.
Select 'Get Info' and then the Tab for 'Sorting'.
In the part where it says "Album Artist" and below 'Sort As' - Type the name of the Band without the word 'The' in the 'Sort As' field. Just type Common Linnets - drop the 'The' completely. Now do the same for the "Artist" Sort As below that.
Also update your iTunes version to the latest 12.4.1.6
This can be done using the About iTunes from the menu bar at the top of your iTunes next to the File menu. Just back up your music library before just in case something goes wrong - but it'll be fine. I'm still using Yosemite Mac OS.

So glad to help you Sylvie. That's my good deed done for the day. Ha ha.
If you are happy with your version of iTunes just stick with it - it works.
I've never had any problems with my updates - everything stays where it should be and works fine after installing. I love my iMac.
In the future if you do decide to update - just back up your iTunes music library first for piece of mind but you'll be fine. The interface is slightly different on the new iTunes but you get used to it.
Take care.

Just found your post Sylvie and notice Fanriffic has it sorted. Good the fun starts if you ever record a CD to iTunes and the art work is not in their library. What a palaver. I have managed to source the desired cover graphic, download it to photo library, and from there to my iTunes main page listings. Again using the Get Info facility. Love my iTunes though
