/// Student unions now ban any instances of what they call 'cultural appropriation' – in which white people adopt clothes or customs of different cultures. ///

It seems that Chu Chin Chow and Ali Baba and the 40 thieves, are a no, no then?

Have to cancel the Christmas pantomime shows then.
//The letter even complained about a student production of The History Boys because it had cast an East Asian actor to play a South Asian character.//
nothing more to be said is there?

Gets dafter. Last week there was some howling because a girl had her hair plaited by her mother. Misappropriation of the corn row plaits of the African people they said. But strangely they don't do the same when some African people have their hair straightened. Why?
Good.
what, no more Black and White Minstrel Shows? These people are trashing my precious childhood memories.
//Good. //

wasn't it you that argued loud and long that to cast Idris Elba as James Bond wouldn't detract from the story? even though Ian Fleming's description of the character of Commander James Bond wouldn't match?

I agree the dramatic content wouldn't be affected, but it's still cultural appropriation. either cultural appropriation is OK, or it isn't. or doesn't it apply in the reverse direction? perhaps you could explain why?

Where have you been the good British public have not been allowed to see a Black and White Minstrel Show since our national broadcaster axed them back in 1978.
Confusing isn't it? We are commanded to accept and celebrate "multiculturalism" but forbidden to actually do just that in case we cause offence. Does multi culture therefore actually cause multi conflict?

/// Does multi culture therefore actually cause multi conflict? ///

I think that you have nailed it squarely on the head there Togo.

Times were much easier before the days of vast multiculturalism, we could do and say very much as we wished, in our own country back then.
What we need is a great big melting pot.........
Douglas ... I actually like that song but it appears behind all that cheeriness they were actually a bunch of rabid racists.
I think it was of it's time and written and performed with the best of intentions, Talbot.
Madeleine Bell seemed happy enough to sing along.
Bloomink heck.^^
Togo, you're not thinking of Mary Bell, are you?

This is the usual load of PC nonsense.
Naomi, Madeleine Bell was the singer in .....Blue Mink.
//Roger Coulam (keyboards) formed the band in the autumn of 1969, with Madeline Bell (vocalist), Roger Cook (vocalist), Alan Parker (guitarist), Herbie Flowers (bassist), and Barry Morgan (drummer).[1] Most of the songs were written by Cook and Roger Greenaway.//

Wiki.
Usual left wing BS from students.
Togo, I know - which is why I wondered why you said 'Bloomink heck' .... but I've just realised the 'k' wasn't a typo. Derrr....
It is except such dictatorial statements as "Student unions now ban" could be equally seen as fascist.
Except we know they are commies not fascists.
