What is the theme used for the Radio 4 election programs (dum diddy dum dum dum du......m etc). I remember it from the early 80's I think as the theme to a sci-fi serial possibly. Does anyone remember?

You're right, it's the election bit halfway through the PM programme. Found it via the Android SoundHound App, which correctly identified 'Arthur' from Rick Wakeman's 1975 album 'The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table'.

There seem to have been several. Which particular programmes do you mean?

I think I've heard the theme played in the late afternoon, perhaps during the PM program, but I'm afraid I'm rather vague on it. I just remember my hearing it several times as an introduction to the election news (both now and in the previous election), and being a rather martial theme I also recalled it from my younger days as a serial tune from the radio. Sorry for being vague.

Just realised tonight that the closing music for the PM political report is the end of the same track.
