This morning I received a brand new copy of The Chambers Dictionary from Bookpoint with a Gratis Invoice "with our compliments" and then "Prize". It can only be from one the newspapers as a Crossword Puzzle prize from either the Telegaph, Sunday Telegraph, Sunday Times, Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Mail or The Mail on Sunday as I don't do any other crosswords. Can anyone inform as to who gives this book as a prize and why does the newspaper not inform its winners of prizes won other than print them in the newspaper itself no doubt but who religiously looks at these all the time?

Telegraph GK on Saturday - 6 runner-up prizes of Chambers, the 1st prize adds the Biographical Dictionary & £200.

Sorry, I don't really pay attention to the prizes as I don't enter, so another puzzle could well offer Chambers - hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help.

Congratulations on your win, though! :-)
Well done - how odd no name on the compliments slip.

Thank you for answering my question. Since posting my question I bumped into a friend and he congratulated me on winning the Daily Telegraph crossword. Lie-in King is quite right about the consolation prize is a Chamber's Dictionary but my friend told me I had won first prize in that competition which was not only the Chambers Dictionary but also a Biographical Dictionary AND £200. Luck of the draw of course but you can be assured I am keeping a look-out for the postman and my two remaining prizes which are yet to appear!
I have, over the years had the good fortune to win a first prize and several runner's up and consolation prizes. I have always received a letter from the Crossword department informing me of the prize before any package was despatched.

I suggest you contact the Puzzles Editor who was, as at 29th March 2017, Mr Phil McNeill
