We've just booked a holiday for december and all 3 of us need new passports as our appearance has changed (my son is now 21 and not 11), so when we send for our new passports with new pictures do we need to send new forms and old passports, or just new pictures and and old passports.?

Thanks Islay, I was just wondering if we had to send the old ones in as they may contain information to speed things up.

Dave.
The Post office is very efficient and they will check the forms, you need your old passport and regulation photos, no angles on your head etc..... I did mine recently and had the new one in 6 days, the old one returned with the corner snipped about a week later.
I'd send all. Your son will have to have his photographs signed again. The old passports will make things much easier and quicker. The form only takes minutes to fill in.
DT...the post office is only as efficient as the person checking the forms. My son paid his £8 and got his form sent back!
I've heard of quite a few cases where the post office check was not reliable. If you follow the instructions most sensible people can check it themselves.
Please don't waste your money doing at the post office!! You get all the help online that you need.
Thanks for BA
I must be particularly beige these days.
Got a text from the passport bods reminding me that mine was soon to expire and I could apply online but would need to update with a digital fotie.
Three different devices and a dozen rejected images later, too dark/light/poor definition of eyes/background etc, I may just do it on paper like the old days

Thanks for all the answers, my wife will take it all to the post office she used for sending stuff with her last job so they know her really well and will do it for free, regarding signing the picture of my so, does it need to be a doctor, dentist or just a friend.

What I dont want is to send everything away and have it returned.

Dave, sorry if this detracts from your original question a bit, but the references to on-line renewal have raised another question. As far as I recall from the last time I renewed my passport, an independent signatory was required. How does that work on-line? Mine is due for renewal this year.
I can't remember if you print it off or if they send it to you Naomi its been 2 years since I did my last passport!
Islay, not with you. Print what off, and what do you think they might send to you?
We had problems renewing my wife's passport. The old blue one's are not recognised as a previous passport. If you have one you can't renew it.You have to apply for a 1st passport. 3 times I asked the passport information phone line and each time they gave me the wrong information.
The renewal application was rejected and we had to apply for a 1st passport.

My point exactly naomi, if you do everything online, who signs and where to confirm the identity of the people or persons on the pictures, as normally its on the reverse of the photos.

Dave.
Sorry Naomi, applying online is a bit of an misnomer! you complete the form on line and then I can't remember if you press send or print it off yourself to get the signatory or the you press send and then they send you a printed copy for the signatory.
Have you looked at the website anyone?
That would be my first port of call actually!
Dave, my thoughts exactly.

Islay, I did look at your link. Perhaps there's more information further in. I'll have another look.
Webbo,
My son, who coincidently, is also 21 has just renewed his childs passport. Did it via the post office and had it back in 2 weeks. Needed to fill out passport form and return with old passport and signed photo. Got a family friend to sign it who is a retired clergyman.
No problems at all.
I tried to apply online only to be told that as it counted as a new application we had to do it by filling in and posting it.
If you do it online you still have to get the photos and the photo declaration signed and send them by post. The online photo service is still only a trial In certain areas of the country.
