Looking For A Victorian Art Nouveau Church With Black And White Interior...

I really hope someone can help me with my search. A number of years ago I picked up a (since lost) tourist leaflet from a service station about a beautiful church/cathedral. It was described as being a Victorian art nouveau (I'm sure gothic revival exterior) building, but it was unique in the fact that it had a completely black and white interior. The ceiling lights seemed to resemble upturned flowers. I'm almost certain it was in the north of England around the larger Leeds/Wakefield area. Hopefully someone out there knows exactly where I am talking about. I have enlisted friends in this search but so far we've never found it...

I'm from around that area, but can't help I'm afraid. Perhaps you should contact the local diocese? They will know their churches.
Can you remember which service station you picked the leaflet up from?
Hi
I will confess to knowing nothing about churches or the geography of England, but I am awake and bored.

I found this church Dewsbury - Our Lady and St Paulinus - http://tinyurl.com/ya3peg2p

this is a picture of the interior. I didn't know if the benches/pews were black and white, but it looks black and white apart from them.

Good luck in your search

Thank you for the 3 answers so far! My friend contacted the diocese - and they didn't know the church/cathedral...BUT I may have the area wrong. I don't remember the service station, but think it must have been around the Leeds M1. I remember thinking that the church would be about a 2 hour drive from where I live (Teesside) so further south of Leeds (also east or west of course). As for the Dewsbury link - thank you - however that's definitely not it - the interior was SO striking, black and white marble and black and white flooring. I don't remember the pews but feel they must have been black...
I tried googling but the problem is that using the words black and white just brings up tons of pictures taken in black and white.

I didn't realise just how many churches there were out there in the world, some truly beautiful buildings with amazing interiors.

If I was you I would just do it slowly. List all the churches that it could be. Google them, many have their own web-page or images in Google Images. After five minutes they will all start to look the same ☺ If you are searching it may be a good idea to set your search to UK only.

Facebook may be a good way to get leads too.

☺☺
I think it would help if we knew for sure that it was definitely in Yorkshire, because going further south ///so further south of Leeds (also east or west of course)./// means it could be in Lancashire or Cheshire even.

Thank you both. Yes that is my biggest problem with the search - the black and white photos keep popping up! Agree, I've also found some incredible churches, but not mine :-( It would help if I could remember where the service station was for sure, however I've been on this search for (gulp) 10 years+

I hate to admit defeat but I can't find anything that fits your description.

This church is bright and airy but might have too much colour to it.

I asked my friends on FB but they were not really much help.

The Daily Mail used to have a column where you could submit a question and a newspaper reader would answer it. I haven't bought a paper for years so I can't be sure that they still do it.

Please let us know if you find your church - I hate the fact that the information is out there on the web but I am unable to locate it.

Thank you wolf63 (and all who tried to help) unfortunately the link to the norfolk church didn't reveal my church. I knew it was a long shot...but it's very frustrating when I know the church is out there and SOMEONE has to know all about it! Honestly you'd know the church immediately if you saw it, it's SO striking, so defined in it's total 'black and white' interior. Thank you for trying to help. If I ever find it I'll be sure to tell you!

Thanks Ed/mod. I've noticed a few spammers have avatars on the day they join AB, eg

that's a mystery, isn't it, ff. Only signed up today. But maybe he already had ana vatar linked to Gravatar for some other site, so it got picked up here?

Sorry, Dumbo, off topic. Like you and wolf I also tried googling black and white and all I got was monochrome. I flipped through Simon Jenkins' book on the 1000 best churches but didn't see anything there either.
FF

Because they already have a Gravatar avatar they use elsewhere and it carries over to their profile here.

Keep linking to their avatars isn't really helping.
