/// He said the 'level of influx of multi-national workers in this country has sort of confirmed how lazy as a nation we are - when individuals from across the seas are prepared to come and work twice as hard for less money'. ///
Does he realise that it may be less money to us but a great deal more than they can earn in their own countries, which in turn keeps our earnings low, why else do they clammer to come here?

Foreign workers know the pay here is much better than in their native country so it's worth more to them than it is to a UK native. Also they've probably had difficulty earning a good standard of living in their native country so have developed an acceptance of working hard to try to improve their life. Whilst we're one of the countries that has achieved an...

It depends on the incentive. If welfare is just a safety net then folk are almost obliged to look after their own interests. If it's a comfortable life then the incentive disappears. Folk who want to live off the State are probably a small percentage though. That stated the wages for a full time job must be sufficient for the UK or the incentive will be to get involved in criminal activity where one isn't being exploited by an uncaring employer.
As for Ramsey, he's being Mr. Alpha sounding off. If there's laziness it should be extended to those in management who claim they're worth their excessive high salary and we'd lose them otherwise, but who apparently can't even run a going concern well without importing cheap labour to make life easier for themselves.

Working in professional kitchens is very hard - saying that I could never complain at the money I earned whilst doing it - even whilst training.
I agree to him to a certain extent as I have worked with some very lazy brits and some very hard working multi national workers!
Some people want the money but not the hard work!

Eccles...there is very little bizarre about this. British people can lazy about for generations, as Dole Bludgers. and do very well on it.
Foreign workers know this and that is why they are here to do the jobs that our resident unemployed won't do.
Ditto with the fruit and veg that Ramsey and others will cook and serve....picked almost exclusively by immigrant labour.

Perhaps it is because those 'lazy Brits' that you and others are going on about can receive more on benefits than by working in these low paid jobs.
Perhaps your hated Tories should reduce their benefits?
Wait a minute though aren't you Labour lovers always going on about the Tory cuts in benefits?
Another thing that you should be careful about mikey and that is the fact that 'Lazy Brits' come in all skin colours.

Also they've probably had difficulty earning a good standard of living in their native country so have developed an acceptance of working hard to try to improve their life. Whilst we're one of the countries that has achieved an expectation of a higher quality of life, and so feel work ought not to be such a large portion of it; reducing it so that family and self time is a greater portion.
I think it too easy to blame UK workers for not wanting to accept any position, working environment, or wage. Or claim their refusal to do so is the cause of bringing in those willing to do so from abroad. We have a national labour market, one should let it work well, subject to minimum standards, not allow companies to short circuit it.

Cuts in benefits have tended to hit those that need and depend on them. Getting the right balance isn't easy but welfare needs to provide where needed and not overprovide to those who should be contributing to society and the public purse. Of course we also need to force employers to pay a true 'living wage' and not expect their underpayment, and their excuses that their business venture isn't viable without that, to top up the wage shortfall in benefits.

In the unlikely hood that we get a Labour government, will the first thing they bring in, is for unemployment benefits to only be payable for a very short period and at a much smaller rate than they are now?
