What is wrong with broadening the scope of the curriculum?

It is very easy to spin this as solely an issue of Race, but including more authors than the traditional dead, white men might result in graduates receiving a more rounded 'education'.

1. The University can tweak its courses whenever it wants to. Some students (probably including some overseas ones) have requested more diverse authors, and the University have agreed. Is that really worth a Mail ‘story’? Is that really news?

2. A young student says something in the University magazine that may or may not be correct. Again, is that news?
Isn’t all this just copy fodder because the Mail can’t afford, or be bothered, to do some proper journalism ?

Absolutley nothing, providing it is done for the correct reason.

It stands to reason, giv en history, that there will be predominately white historical authors, trying to change that too early will mean you could end up including writers of colour who are below the mark of some white writers so diluting the course content which helps no one of any colour studying English Lit.

This will change over time, problem is you cant speed up time to get history!

Now I thought that Uni's now were private enterprise and that they "sold" their courses to students? If this is the case then isn't it the same as my choosing to shop at Marks instead of Primark because Marks have what I want and Primark doesn't?
