Isn't it child cruelty to force Shakespeare on kids who have no time for it, struggle with it, fail it, and after leaving school never revisit it.

That would depend who you were and who you know though Theland, you'd generally get a very interesting conversation out of 90% of the people I know and 90% of the people they know most likely, out of your friends I have no idea, but just because something isn't relevant to you don't assume it isn't to anyone else or that they are not 'real people' because it is, that's just absurd.
My dad was a foundry mon, if you had asked ( or is that axed ) him who Shakespeare was he'd have probably said that he played for the Wolves when he was a kid.
