... but are you surprised that Doreen Fletcher who started painting scenes of East End London in 1983 but gave up in 2004 after being discouraged by a lack of recognition?

Had I lived/worked in any of these buildings or landscapes I would never want to hang any of these pictures on my wall. In fact I find most of them quite depressing.

I'm not made on them. They look like they've drawn the lines with a ruler.

I quite like them. Like you say, art is subjective
I like some of those, in particular the Bartlett Park one - as for recognition, many artists leave this earth before they get any recognition.
I rather like them...very evocative of a time past.
I like wolf's choice also.
I think they are bright and lovely....not what I would want to hang on my walls though as I prefer nature and the countryside or ships
I like them too. Shades of Edward Hopper in there, but British and brighter.
I absolutely love them. They capture their time and place beautifully. Remind me of Lowry.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
Subjective indeed - I really like them, ta choux :-)
I like them too, but are they a tad too realistic? a bit photoish for want of a better word.
Not my cup of tea but there also some in galleries that are appalling...to my mind. But that's the whole point about art...they will attract different people with very different taste.
All interesting links. Better than half a sheep or an unmade tent anyway.
They look like Lowri's for southern softies:-)
I really like them and also agree with Cloverjo 15.00. I have just watched the first if the American art series BBC4 . Many artists of that period in a very similar style. Love it. !
OG you mean this Tracy?

I really liked these, but then they are evocative of gentler times.
I really like them, great pictures of how London use to look.
