Opera Is Llst On Me.
90 Answers
I have heard rave reviews about opera.
Believe me, I have tried and tried to listen to it, understand it, enjoy it, but with me it falls on deaf ears.
I simply don't get it, don't enjoy it, don't even like it.
Is it the Emperors New Clothes again? You know, kid yourself that it is good, to impress others?
It must be good for some, but it,is lost on me.

In the Punch cartoon from which it originates, it actually means 'I know that the whole thing is bad. I'm simply being polite/humble by saying that some parts of it are good':

I agree, some art forms are lost on some people.
I attend the Montreal Jazz Festival every year, and see some top level jazz bands and players, and a lot of the music and its appeal is lost on me. But I can still review and comment on it, as I have on dozens of gigs where the output is not necessarily to my personal taste - it goes with the job.
But opera, and ballet, are art forms outside my appreciation and understanding.
