I would like to start making felt handmade Christmas decorations. But I am unsure what thread to use for the blanket stitch around the edge. Should I be using wool or needlework thread? If it is needlework thread how many of the skein should I use. I know it is two for needle point. Would really appreciate some advice.

I would use wool, mainly because I have a lot of it about - if using embroidery thread then use as many strands as will look effective as a border.
I'd use crochet cotton for smooth blanket stitch. Probably a size 10 or even a little finer depending on the thickness of your felt.

'Embroidery thread' in this video:
Quite a few things you could use; 2ply wool, crochet cotton or full-thickness embroidery thread. I'd tend to go for the wool myself.
