On how soon they can put their Christmas lights up. Just saw a house that was lit up like Blackpool illuminations. Santa, snowflakes, Christmas tree, reindeer. It was all there.

I would say , they are a bit late ,off the mark
Loads have gone for it near me, but they always do.
This Saturday 14th November is Diwali.
I suspect you have stumbled on a Hindu family that likes Christmas.
People probably just trying to cheer themselves and the neighbourhood up after the awful year we've had.

Joan Collins started early this year. I saw a photo of her next to her tree on a programme earlier.
I have curtain lights at my window since this afternoon, not for Christmas but for a bit of cheer in these dark days

I don't think it's anything to do with Diwali. We only get fireworks here for that. I did think people would put their decs up early this year because they need a bit of sparkle after such a dreary time but I was surprised just how early this was.
I swear there are some that barely get the tree in the loft before it's time to get it out again. I won't be joining them. My tree usually goes up Christmas Eve and comes down the Day after boxing day and I don't put lights outside or at my Windows I think it's common.
Lights in the window 'common' ?? How strange !
Then I'm common ILM haha
a red one could be perceived as common . . .
Me too Bobbs, I always have some sort of lights in the window. Looks lovely both inside and outside.
Mine are more white ael, quite classy really.
Trust me in my area there are those who do and those who dont, a lit free I think is fine but those flashing window nets are normally accompanied by mooning Santa's and inflatable dinosaurs in Santa hats. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground. Where I used to live most of the houses did the white icicle lights around their eaves and white lights on conifers in front gardens that was all and I think it looked lovely especially when it snowed or was very frosty.
You didn't say all that though rowan, you said the lights in the windows were 'common'.
I don't flashing, that's migraine inducing :(
A few years ago we went to arrest someone on a not so nice council estate in Salford and was surprised to see all the decorations and the tree up in the living room. Mother said kids were bored as it was school holidays and she didn't know how to keep them occupied so they got the christmas stuff out and decorated the house. It was August 25th.
Perhaps Rowan would like to define 'common' ?
I am trying to think of a way to put this nicely but all I can say is it's the five kids, different fathers, go to the offie in their onesie brigade, the families who call their kids Jayden, Elle, Leejak, etc and whose current bloke stands outside the house at 10 am with a can of Stella, who have already got their over the top decorations up. I am sure it's different in other areas but it certainly colours my judgement.
Phew!!} I don't fit any of those pigeon holes then ;)
Oxford St switched theirs on more than a week ago (or maybe they just didn't bother taking them down last year)
