Gloss Painting
5 Answers
Hi all, excuse my ignorance here!, I am about to give the house a good going over and tonight it's the glossing in the bathroom. I'll be painting the skirting boards / door frame white on white. Do I need to sand these down or can I just gloss over them? Also I had to sand down the window sill as it was previously very rough. Should I paint this with a primer first?

After sanding your wood, make sure you wipe it down with a damp cloth or a ran with white spirit and preferably vaccuum around the area before painting. If you don't all the fine dust particles will settle back on the woodwork and you'll end up with a really gritty finish on the wood and particles clogging up your brush. If there's still some paint left on your window sill, it probably shouldn't need priming but some white undercoat will help the new paint stick better.
