I still haven't read my Christmas book - A Thousand Splendid Suns - but am now searching for an audio book or large print version for a friend with failing eyesight.

I hope you succeed, LJ, and I hope you and your friend like it. Since being asked to recommend a book to a book club - they hated my choice - I'm always reluctant to make recommendations because tastes differ so much, but for me this book really was 'splendid'.

Will you let me know what you think please? I really would be interested to know.

Yes, of course I will. My friend used to read quite a bit and we have exchanged many books in the past but as an artist she is finding life a bit difficult at the moment. I know she enjoyed The Kite Runner.

I think she's enjoy this then, LJ. In my opinion it's even better than The Kite Runner.

Another in that vein you might like is The Bookseller of Kabul - non-fiction but a good read.

Thanks for the suggestion Naomi. We exchange our books by post as she doesn't live near. I haven't heard her mention that one.

As I said, it's a non-fiction book but it reads as a story. I enjoyed it.

I think I'll try that book. I prefer non-fiction.

A Thousand Splendid Suns is an excellent read, although I couldn't get an English copy in Carrefour at the time so I read the Spanish version, Mil Soles Esplendidos. I agree it's better than The Kite Runner, which is also very good.

I can't even remember all the books I've got in boxes in the attic but I do look forward to unpacking them all and reading the ones I haven't yet got around to.
