Mcdonald And Dodds S3 Ep1
2 Answers
The professor and his mother (played by Alan Davies and Sian Phillips) were referred to throughout as 'Gillan', yet the subtitles and the end credits gave their name as 'Gillian'. This website https:/ /www.hi tc.com/ en-gb/2 022/06/ 19/mcdo nald-an d-dodds -season -3-epis ode-1-c ast-bel vedere/ refers to them as 'Gillan'. Can anyone explain? Is it an Irish name with a strange Irish pronunciation? Did you see that the victim, Elodie Docherty, was played by Caoimhe O'Malley. How do you pronounce that name (and I don't mean O'Malley)?

I can just about see how Siobhan can be pronounced as 'shuh-VORN', but how on earth can they pronounce 'm' as 'v'? Why don't they just use a different alphabet? I've just looked at the rules. Broad and slender consonants! I suppose it's no different, in a way, from French, where half the letters in a word are not pronounced at all.
