Painting Around Firesurround After Woodburner Installed
8 Answers
Had firesurround removed, old hearth removed, woodburner installed, new hearth installed, firesurround replaced. New hearth is about an inch less high then previous one so there's a gap between mantlepiece and existing painted wall of about an inch that has been plastered over. When firesurround was removed some plaster came off the wall in a place adjacent to the left pillar and that piece was about four inches wide. Now been replastered .
If I had the original paint I could paint the replastered bits but of course I don't and while it is a magnolia colour any tin I buy won't be an exact match.
Two possibilities -paint a border in a different colour about 4 inches wide all the way round or repaint entire wall with a close match.
If the former. I've got some paint that is slighly darker but could be seen clearly as a border but would it be better to use white?
If the latter the other three walls will be a different colour even if only slightly different . Would that look weird?
Thanks

I would get the roller out and paint the whole wall. It's only my personal opinion but a shade that was deliberately different from the other three walls would look better than one that was only close to the other shade.
Also... you might consider a retro look with a 4" (or similar) tiled surround. It would take a lot of thinking about, and would rather depend on the look of the whole room.
