Strange Coincidences
61 Answers
I was sat here and for some unfathomable reason I thought about CRAFT1948 whom I haven't seen in a while. I did a search for her profile and it was exactly 3 years ago today she last looked in. Coincidence or some psychic explanation?
Have you had any baffling coincidences?
I can sing a song in my head and my husband will start singing it out loud. I'll suddenly think about my mum and in that very instant she will call me or vice versa (that has literally happened HUNDREDS of times).
Do you believe in ESP or would you chalk such things up as nothing more than pure coincidence?

For those who haven't heard the story.. Apologies to those who have... In the last few days of his life Redman was soothed by some music I had which was based on the sea... And harbours because he had spent many years in the merchant navy and had lost of great memories... I ordered a fresh batch of CDs. The day After he died there was one unopened one... So I played it...

Pure coincidence. Why look for psychic explanations for inevitable coincidences.
Richard Feynman once said in a lecture, "Today, I came through the parking lot and saw a car with number 3245CA97B. Do you know what the odds are against seeing that exact number? It's so unlikely that that was the exact number that it's hard to believe that it happened - that I actually saw that number. But I did!"

I have strange/unlikely occurrences that happen on daily basis.
Like you, I also have the exact same thing with my own mum constantly. At times I will pick up phone to call her and she already on line as she has rung me and phone hasn't had chance to ring.
I can be filling in a crossword puzzle clue and at exact same time I am writing it, the same word will be said on TV (peculiar words not in everyday speak).
When I looked it up its called synchronicity and Carl Yung has got lots of examples of similar things.
My husband and I found we had exact same photo of our mothers on a works photo as it turned out they had both worked at same place and were both in the photo years before we had got together. They never knew of each other in workplace.

I'm not denying it really, Dougie, and I respect anyones opinion or I wouldn't have asked. I think many things can be explained scientifically or accepted as "just one of those things" but the calls and messages between my mother and me and one of us thinking something nanoseconds before the other one saying it is something that has baffled the pair of us for years.
Karamia - very interesting post, thank you.
My mum's twin sister died 2.5 years ago, suddenly and unexpectedly. Two days before she died she said to her husband, "I've got two days to live, get used to it." She claimed to have been hearing voices for a month saying, "Come on, Pauline, it's time to go."
Coincidence? I'm not inclined to think so.

I crossed paths with my (now deceased) husband long before we actually officially met and we both remembered the incident. He was much younger than I, and I had been to a radio 1 roadshow at local boating lake with my friends -at the end while leaving we saw a group of teens throwing another lad in their group into the lake. I remember saying 'Oh look at that poor lad! He'll be drenched!' My husband was that lad. We didn't meet until another 8 years.
Until quantum mechanics, and in particular ‘entanglement’ are fully understood (or much better understood) we’ll never know whether synchronicity is a ‘thing’ or whether they are just coincidences. Latest discovery is that one random sub atomic particle can affect another billions of light years away.

Yup - he did
and he wrote a book called - - - synchronicity - I cdnt get past ch 5 - where he says that his theory - of synchronicity that is! is not scientifically verifiable - - oh.
he does point out distractors - if you think of your mama alot, then your telephone calls will coincide

About 20 years ago it was about another 20 since we had left the country we'd lived in for a few years and as we were getting breakfast ready one Saturday for some reason we started wondering about people we'd known there and talking about one particular couple, I'd raced dinghies with the man. We sat down to eat, turning the newspaper pages and I was speechless! There, a double page spread, was an article written by one of the sons of couple we'd just been discussing, it even had a photo of him in the dinghy I raced with his father!
