Is It Economically Better To Sell Prints Framed Or Unframed?

I have a lot of prints and posters that one day will go to auction. Will they in general make more money if they are framed on not?

Any decent auction house should be able to offer you guidance as to what sells best with them, so I suggest speaking to an auctioneer.

However, as a veteran of countless auctions myself, I can't recall frames ever adding a great deal to the prices of prints and posters (and certainly not as much as the actual costs involved in framing them). So, in the absence of advice from an auctioneer at this point, I'd suggest offering them for sale unframed.

Shows how much I know. My thoughts were that folk would pay for a decent frame then sling the print away.

alternatively, though, if they don't want a frame they might hesitate to pay extra for one.

If I buy something I'm going to hang on a wall I ask (and pay) for it to be framed. But I don't buy posters - in general they're made for pinning or sellotaping to the wall unless they're original Muchas.
