I grabbed a latte on my way to work and at the same time noticed Buy One Get One Half Price on books so I treated myself to The Beekeeper of Aleppo (Christy Lefteri) and The Catch (Harlan Coben). Has anyone ready these and what did you think?
most of Scotland is with JK..and very much sick and tired of queen Nicola's shenanigans..despite what her cohorts may do to try and give the opposite impression...
I’m reading Good Pop Bad Pop by Jarvis Cocker (from Pulp).It’s great fun. He’s going through stuff in his loft and reminisces on items and what was happening in his life when he decided to keep each item “for posterity”.
If I can mention a book not reading, but finished last week, & now being read by Mrs K. This I can recommend, Anna Seghers was a Jew who escaped from Germany in WW11 to Mexico where she wrote this, which became an instant best-seller in the 40s America & was made into a film starring Spencer Tracy, this is a new translation;
Thanks, Khandro. I'll add that to my literary wish-list.
Whilst I appreciate that Carlos Ruíz Zafon is a celebrated Author, I could not get on with Shadow Of The Wind. It was very dark and atmospheric but I'm afraid I didn't enjoy it and gave up about a third of the way in.
Khando, many escapees / survivors went to Central and South America as did the Nazis who escaped. Dr Mengele was one of them and I believe he was identified by his remains. Others were captured and brought back to trial.
Lady CG, The Seventh Cross is a novel, but it describes what life was like living in Germany during the 30s. There's lots of characters in it & sub-plots so you need to pay attention to detail, but well worth the effort.
This edition even has a list of some of the main protagonists at the front.
C.j. Samson’s Shardlake series, about a (eponymous) hunchback lawyer in Tudor times. I know, not the kind of thing I would have normally read. It was serialised on the radio and I dipped in and out of the programmes, got reeled in by that. Bagged all seven books on fleabay, currently on book 3 . Recommended, even if you don’t like historical fiction. I found them strangely addictive
Lady cg, I would happily pass them on to you , once I get through them . I am a fan of redistributing books rather than leaving to gather dust, once read
Yes I often deposit them on such a shelf any local supermarket (Tesco) other supermarkets are available. I also often post them on to friends who express an interest, getting some from them in return , can be a mixed bag though. I suspect that Tesco shelf will be easier than my original offer
