What are the best recent books?

it all depends on what you like, lots of good stuff out there, one in particular i read a week ago...'We were soldiers once and young', a factual account of the Vietnam War

I recommend (romantic that I am): Wild Swans, Falling Leaves, Captain Corelli and (for a touch of cynicism): McCarthy's Bar, The Star's Tennis Balls, and Dead Famous...S x

I've recently read Cujo by Stephen King, Strip Jack by Ian Rankin and Black & Blue also by Ian Rankin. The last two are detective novels supposed to be based in Edinburgh and Cujo as you've probably guessed is a horror / thiller type book about a dog turned rabied.

I've recently read "The Eyre Affair" and "Lost in a Good Book" by Jasper Fforde which are slightly surreal in a Douglas Adams kind of way. I would also recommend anything by Neil Gaiman. I'm currently reading his book, "Coraline", which is supposed to be for children, but it's scaring the bejeezus out of me!

Fast Food Nation is quite scary but it's easy to read. Giles Milton is quite good too. Will Selfs 'The Way the Dead Live' is different, it's one of my favourite books so far this year.
