Can anyone tell me how Joe Orton died?

Poor Joe Orton was hit repeatedly over the head ( 9 times) with a hammer by his lover Kenneth Halliwell in August 1967 in the flat they shared at Noel Rd, Islington.

Kenneth Halliwell had become increasingly paranoid about Joe Orton's success and had become dependant upon anti -depressants to get him through the days. He killed himself with an overdoes after the killing and ironically was the first of the two to actually die.

He left a suicide not suggesting that Joe Orton's diaries would give an answer as to why he murdered him and indeed there were detailed accounts of his numerous affairs and cottaging habits.

All in all a tragedy from beginning to end.
