Riply. Netflix
We just watched the first 2 episodes; brilliant photography in b/w. Good acting all slightly, uncomfortaby menacing, no bad language, excellent original plot & script, original story by Patricia Highsmith - geezer !
Please don't tell me how the book was better, because it wasn't, and couldn't possibly be so.
The direction of the plot looks to be rather obvious, but maybe there will be a twist - no spoilers please.
Anyone?

Just binged watched the whole lot - absolutely fantastic. Remember the film vaguely and couldn't even remember the ending. Black and white was no problem for me and I grew into it easily. The quality of the acting is superb and the pace of the plot is very, very cleverly done. Edge of seat at the end of each episode dragged me to the next. I now see how Netflix is so successful, see also 'Scoop'.
Interesting. I heard this series being talked about on the radio the other day and wondered how a series could improve on the film with the superb (and young) Matt Damon as Mr Ripley - that was a masterpiece with an outstanding cast. I suppose it's one of those that sometimes you think can't be improved upon so I probably won't bother trying this version.
Far superior to the film which seems 'frothy' in comparison. The b&w filming was reminiscent of Fellini. Johnny Flynn and Dakota Fanning (especially) were wonderful too. As were the police, consiergies etc. I would warn that it is very violent in places if that is an issue. Otherwise, I would thouroughly recommend it.
