There seems to be more and more articles in the news about global warming every day. Having recently read "Michael Crichton's State of fear" I am reluctant to take it seriously. He produced lots of evidence to suggest that global warming is not happening. So at one end of the spectrum we have all the environmantalists going mad and claiming the end is nigh and at the other end we have Michael Crichton and his novel telling us its all rubbish. What are 'scientists' views on this?

The vast majority of climate scientists accept that the climate is changing - I think even President Bush accepted this.

The open question at the moment is how much affect humans are having on this

Most environmentalists are scientists who have nothing to gain from global warming. Crichton is a thriller writer who makes money out of writing fiction. Who you gonna believe?
We cannot control weather and we definitely do not have equipment that is sophisticated enough to predict how a weather is going to change ( or not ). Nevertheless, global warning or not, do the right thing, recycle when you should, deforest only when you need to ( btw, it is called development by some people. Don't get me wrong,I ain't complaning about indoor plumbing here, I'm FOR development) and leave the rest to the world.

P.S. I believe that the world has survived 6 mass extinctions and it will survive humans.
