recently i read about a novel written by one of the more famous 20th centrury existentialist, either kafka, kierkegaard or camus. it was the story of a man who was born without the ability to feel or show love. I cant quite remember who it was by or what it was called -any ideas?

Sounds like L'etranger (The Outsider) by Camus to me.
Agree - he eventually kills someone without understanding or remorse.
... starting with his complete indifference to the death of his mother...
