I know this is very vague, but I wonder if anybody can help me. I read a book years ago (I have read some since) and want to re-read it, but I Don't know what it is called or who the author is. I can't really remember exactly what happens, only bits.
Anyway here goes

The main part (or the end) was about some nasty inbred people who were living in some deep caves. They had been there for years (prehaps a few generation) and had taken to being even more nasty (killing people). It may have been sey in some mountains, possibly at a holiday resort/log cabin camp or something.

If anybody can find it and tell me what it is I will be amazed

Sounds like the script from most 80's video nasty's!!
sounds like a story based on Sawney Bean??? He and his family were real life cannibals who lived in Scotland (!)
Question Author
The Sawney Bean story sounds remarkably similar. It was set in the stated though, I am sure. The Hills Have Eyes is based on this (very loosely), but I can't find referance to this as a book.

States not stated
Also sounds like the Morlocks in H.G.Wells' Time Machine, give or take a few thousand generations!
Try 'The Descent' by Jeff Long
I also think that this sounds like the Morlocks from the Time Machine - it's just about the only part of that book that I can recall too
Sounds like most of my relatives!
sounds like its this -but its set in Scotland - do i win the prize?

Cannibals
Deep in the mountain caves of Blair Long lurks a band of monsters - half-human creatures hideously mutated after generations of inbreeding. This is the dark secret of a remote Highland village - a secret kept safe until a local fisherman builds some holiday chalets to attract tourists. Then the shameful conspiracy of silence is shattered at last - as the horrendous creatures shamble from their lair to mutilate and kill the unsuspecting visitors...

the title for that is :-

Cannibals by Guy N Smith
Question Author

That's the one, it must be. I used to read a lot of Guy N Smith books.

You do win the prize, which is the contentment that Knowledge is the Bomb, and you my friend, have it.

Check out "Satans Snowdrop" and "Doomflight" I can still remember the plots of these from borrowing them off my public school chums as a lad.

Isn't public school great!
