Using Canvas for a Picture

Having watched numerous Home Decorating programmes on TV I want to make a very large canvas print for my wall. I am thinking of stapling either fabric or wallpaper over a blank canvas, do I need to buy a special stapling gun, if so where, and would wallpaper tear? ( I think fabric would be better) I have pale green carpet and cream walls. Any ideas on an extra colour in a wide hallway would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ABers :)

you can staple calico style fabric over a wooden frame to acheive this effect. You simply need a regular typ eof staple gun. I wouldn't recomend wallpaper as I think it would tear. You would only have to lean against it and and you would go straight through it.

You might need some skill to bang together the wooden frame. Also, I would staple the fabric on wet and pull it really tightly then leave it to dry. This way you can be sure that it will shrink slightly as it dries and it will be nice and taught.

Instead of doing one large canvas, why not design you image and then print it over three canvases and hang them nect to eac other with a tiny gap. It will be more of a feature that way.

Just be sure to design your image on paper first to save you spoiling the canvas that has taken you ages to make!

I was thinking an easier way would be to buy some printed fabric from John Lewis in the appropriate colours, and then staple it onto the canvas. Could I do this over a ready made blank canvas ? Trying to find the easy way out !

Even cheaper is an appropriate-sized sheet of MDF, although it will be quite heavy. Mr Licious and I have done just this for a feature on a large white wall (printed fabric is brightly coloured stripes), and it looks fab. All my friends like it, too.

oh sorry, I misunderstood, yes,. I think you could staple printed fabric over a ready made canvas frame.

Mdf would work to as Ab said, but if you used chip board or particle board, It would be lighter. You could also use styroboard that is that kind of polystyrene board. Easy to staple too.
