Toulouse Lautrec is an obvious one you could do.
How about the classic London Underground Posters? Don't know if he actually drew the pictures, but Frank Pick was involved somewhere!
How about John Gilroy for his legendary Guinness posters?
Frank Pick was a manager, not an artist, but he hired top artists like McKnight Kauffer. Alphonse Mucha was famous for posters. Can't see why you think posters stupid; what did you think graphic art was?
Egon Schiele, David Hockney, even MC Escher too.
Rick Griffin
Look up Tom Purvis who did some great Railway posters and also Ashley Havinden who did fantastic advertising posters.
Quizmonkey did any of those artists actually design posters? I know lots of their work has subsequently been used on posters, but that's not quite the same thing.
I'd go for Mucha too. Wonderful artist!
Hi Tom,

Hockney and Schiele definitely did (Hockney did a load of play/opera/dance performance posters which are collected together in one book; and Schiele's posters mainly publicised art exhibitions). I'm sure I can remember some early Escher work being poster design but can't actually confirm this at the moment!
Aubrey Beardsley
Sorry to highjack the thread but....

Let this be a leason to all the homework monkeys out there on how to ask a home work related question on AB. The person asking the question told us all that it was for a course and also said thank you.

Good luck with the research.
Yes i agree Wo Wo.
Ive said before that Abers will go above and beyond if they think they are appreciated as apposed to questions like:

"Post Designers? Give me some"

BTW TomGino - count yourself lucky! We never had such interesting subjects to research when i was at school i can assure you!
Good luck anyway.

What surprises me is that he says he is doing graphic art, and then says "for some STUPID reason we have to research a poster artist"

Rather like someone studying music saying "for some stupid reason we have to study Beethoven's music"

right you are Quizmonkey - I thought Hockney probably had, didn't think Schiele had, and don't know about Escher.
Whereabouts in the country are you, Tom? Birmingham Art Gallery currently has a Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition concentrating on his work as aposter artist.
If this guy thinks that the research is stupid, he is obviously gigantically talented and presumably knows it all already...
