at my college, for world book day, we have been asked to 'dress up' as a book character. i was going to go as hermionie granger from harry potter,as i look a bit like emma watson, who plays her, but there is a fine as it is most popular to came as someone from the harry potter books. if anybody knows of a book character, who looks, discribed as, a bit like hermione, then can you discribe her dress, and appearence. thanku.

Why don't you go as Lolita and watch the male lecturers' glasses steam up.

i can tell ur a bloke RCP!!!!!!
The whole point of books is to use your imagination and let the characters develop in your mind.....the thing your describing is not the character, it's the actress who played that part....why don't you just try and find an original character from a classic book that you like and go as her?
Okay - chastened response. Agree with sft42's points, and you could utilise a fancy dress shop as a character that can be easily recognised by their clothing would be a bonus. You don't have to go as a woman, there is scope in characters like Sherlock Holmes or Long John Silver (don't use a real parrot). More imaginitive still could be an animal (Wind in the Willows) or a robot (Marvin the paranoid android form The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy).
I could lend you my helmet and let you go as D Vader?

How about dressing up as the Oxford English Dictionary? (it's a novel idea)
get your hands on some white face paint, stick your hair in a bun and go as a Geisha as in Memoirs of a Geisha.
stop all other ideas - this is the one!! Go as Willy Wonka. I think it would be easy to dress up in his garb and he would be recognisable. Although the book is nearly 40 years old, it is still read, and the film watched, today (by me anyway!!) Any search for Willy Wonka will take you to pics.
