Wonder if anyone knows of a writer or poet who went mad. His madness culminating with murders and the taking of his own life. Preferably pre 1900's. Sorry v.macarbe i know. Non specific person. Anyone will do. Thanks

Hope you are not some sort of maniac. Anyway this isn't exactly answering your question but Charles Lamb (essayist, poet) had spells in a lunatic asylum. He didn't kill anyone, but his sister, Mary, who also wrote (and collaborated with him on Tales from Shakespeare) was prone to some sort of madness and during one bad period killed their mother with a carving knife. Don't know date of event but Lamb was born 1775.
