Did anyone else think that Ender's Game was a totally fantastic read?
I have just re-read it and still thoroughly enjoyed it, finding different levels to appreciate.
The sequels are also very good.

Yep... the whole of the Ender saga is an excellent read, as are the "sequels" involving Bean.

I have often thought it would make a good movie as well, but no one has ever made one that I am aware of.

He has written several interesting series, including the Alvin the Maker sequence, all of which are worth reading.
I'm gonna go look for these now as the only Orson Scott Card I have is a book of short stories, some of them are brilliant!
Thanks for promoting it lol
LazyGun (Iain M. Banks fan?) - Wolfgang Petersen is supposed to be developing E's Game for a 2008 release, but it has already been postponed a few times.

I quite enjoyed the book, but not enough to rush out and read the sequels.
Definitely an Ian Banks fan LeMarchand :)

The main Ender series actually gets better with each book IMO, a more thoughtful type of SciFi.
The spin off series, that following Bean, is interesting for the political themes developed, particularly at this time of tension between the Muslim world and the West.
The Alvin Maker series is totally different... a kind of alternate history of frontier America, told in a folksy way, and where people have "knacks" or tricks that are magic. Quite absorbing, I thought.
I'll keep my eye out for the game, LeMarchand.Still kind of surprised no one has developed it for a movie though :)
By "E's Game" I meant "Ender's Game", not a game of the books. (Though that probably isn't any clearer than last time!)

Anyway, Wolfgang Petersen directed "Das Boot", "Troy" and most recently "Poseidon". "Ender's Game" the movie is currently scheduled for a 2008 release. As there have yet to be any cast announcements, and rumours about the film started in 2002, I wouldn't hold your breath though!

With regards to the film - I think (but am not sure) that the file Starship Troopers, though not "based" on the book, has some similarities, but poorly done.
I generally hate disagreeing Hapus, but in this case I'm going to have to :)
The enemy in both Enders Game and Starship Troopers were bugs, and the human protagonists in both were young, but thats pretty much all the similarity I can recall.

In Enders Game, Ender and the others were all children, whereas in Starship Troopers they were young adults/adult.

In Enders Game, there was no face to face combat between Humans and the *******, as the aliens were affectionately known.. it was all ship based, and the human ships were unmanned but remote controlled by the kids via the ansible.

Starship Troopers was actually based upon the novel of the same name by Robert Heinlein, and although I have seen it a couple of times now, I still cant work out whether it was taking itself seriously, or whether it was in essence a sendup! Sooo much GungHo-ness!
Question Author
Hi - I hadn't read the book that the film Starship Troopers was based on, but I kept seeing similarities throughout and assumed (wrongly) that in true Hollywood fashioned, they'd based something so vaguely that no money was needed for buying rights. Hey ho.
I wasn't sure what to make of it either. Lock and Load all round.
