Harbouring bitterness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other guy to die - who said that? I've googled, yes, but this seems to be a popular one, it comes in many different versions: Harbouring bitterness, being unforgiving, holding on to anger, blame et cetera - and although it's easy to find it attributed to one person or another, I'm wondering if any of you feel more certain of the origin than I do after googling.

Thanks in advance, more personal thanks after the heat wave is over (yes we're having one here too.)

I haven't the foggiest, but what a quote! One to store in the memory bank for future use.
Jeffrey E Ellis wrote that. if you just put in harboring bitterness in google it finds it.

Not that it's over (the heat wave) but yeah isn't it, shammydodger! It's the kind you know you'll always remember - and then you forget... But now we'll know where to retrieve it, won't we!

spanner7853, thanks but... you see, the thing is that it exists in so many 'renderings' (you could add for instance revenge to the others I named yesterday), and so, by googling "harbo(u)ring bitterness" you exclude all other versions - one of which might well be the original one. So what I did, I googled "drinking poison and waiting for the other". Which resulted in this flood of renderings. So that's why I wondered if anyone recognized the quote more like first-hand: Ah yes, I remember it well, the night old Winston said that on the radio... Like.
