tractor in the field making a flippin' racket
12 Answers
Hi there.
I have a field behind my house which is agricultural. |They just finished harvesting the rapeseed the other week (thank the lord for small mercies, that crop is the work of the devil himself.)
Anyways, tonight at about 8pm the tractors start again, i think ploughing for the next rotation and they are still going on (11.30) they are so noisy, i can't get to sleep and I have a massive headache which is meaning I'm having to type with my right closed to try and alleviate the pain. so I am already in a mood anyway and have just given a curt reply to another thread because of it.. (although she did say something really stooopid to me) but it's not like me to be rude/petulent...I did leave a smiley at the end, but i am in a mood.
Now the question: I realise that farmers are busy little bees all year round, but they profitted handsomely from the build of these houses and the selling of this adjacent land. Do you think it is unreasonable for me to be complaining about a huge deisel tractor with bright lights and jangling metal bits going up and down and up and down all night long? Surely this isn't really fair? And they often harvest/plough late at night. Surely they can start earlier in the day? can't they?
Grrrrrr.

nope not a townie, have always lived in and around farmland and have NEVER been kept awake at night by farmer's tractors. To be fair, th tractor passes about 12 meters from my windows...
why can't he plough here first and then plough non residentially located farmland later?
still awake as you can see; still got a headache; still in a mood.

and also, I know he is doing a job, but how is he any different to the council wanting to dig up the road outside my house int he middle of the night? or someone using a hammer drill at the same time or any other number of noisy occupations that could occur at night? It is not like he is dealing with cattle/animals that need his immediate attention, that would be fine; he is only digging a field over...it could wait 6 hours till morning.
grrrr
p.s Im not in a mood with you Yvonne; only mr giles back yonder. he makes me into a bad person.

This is life I'm afraid ..where I live they harvest peas and often in the middle of the night with huge tractors going nineteen to the dozen ..lights blazing ..the full bells and whistles job
Farmers have to get what they can from their land these days with all these EU rules and regs about what they can and cant grow. Poor subsidies mean that where land was once used for grazing it is now turned over to wheat and barley and the ubiquitous rape because it brings more profit.
Blame the mandarins in Westminster not the poor farmer.
I would rather listen to the drone of a tractor than a load of drunken yobs pouring out of a pub and howling police sirens up and down the road any day .And the smell of fresh manure is infinitely preferable to vomit and takeaway joints..

Tsk, Tsk... this isn't the mimififi I've known... must be an impostor... at any rate, this too, shall pass. I would only ask... was the farm/farmer there when you moved in? Hmmm? Shouldn't last much longer... we have fields of small grains nearby that are over 5,000 acres total in size. There are 8 combines and associated trucks running 24 hours a day... so count yourself lucky...Have a nice night!
Well, I wouldn't mind as much if they were harvesting/sowing and haven't complained in the past when they also do this at this time of night. However, all they are doing isploughing. The weather forcast is fixed clement for the next few days.
The farmers that farm the land here also own the land, they are a very old family. They sold the green field that this house was built on to a property developer and still retain some of the properties also which the rent out.
Honestly, I feel like a serf. Still, it is the morning now, tomorrow is always another day. I appreciate your comments, but may well still bring it to the front at the next parish council meeting. I wonder what the neighbours think? I'll try and get out my mood now.
On the up, head ache is gone and I can now type two eyed.
Clanad: I know, I'm in a foul mood and not normally like this at all, it's shameful. In my defence, husband has been away for the last 3 weeks, and it is getting tedious and making me feel very sad and ultimately of course, making me in a mood :-(
I think I should just stay in today and try not to have any contact with any other people, just in case......:-)

I know Touareg-8, it is very boring. Not too bad in the week as he is a long hour worker, but no definition between week and weekend hence, no friday feeling....
He is in japan, so maybe he'll bring me back something nice, hehehehehe
Don't know about the tyres. I'm a bit of scaredy cat, but then again....
Thanks for all the posts once again, its nice to have a rant sometimes.

Hi mimififi :o)
Sorry to hear you were feeling a tad moody last night, def not like you at all. It's not nice being kept awake so late at night and ofcourse a build up of this is over a few hours late in to the night is going to come out in one way or another, least you did it on here and didn't run out weilding a rolling pin in your slippers and nighty last night! lol (sorry just trying to cheer you up a bit :o))
I would do as you have suggested and bring it up at the next parish meeting. At least it can be noted and passed on to the farmer to be considered in the future.
Hope you have a more peaceful night's sleep tonight :o)

Hi wingnut. Thank you for your comments. It's nice to know that you and other's think that its not like me to be moody, and it isn't, I try to be nice, just sometimes....well. What can I say? And tractors do bring out the worst in me.
Anyways, much better today. Am planning a video evening with the children tonight, we have minstrels and coke (the carbonated kind, not the powdered kind) and so hopefully it'll be much more relaxing. Just utterly, utterly embarrassed of course for being such a grouch and reacting so crossly to other people who were mean to me in other threads (two threads actually I ended up over reacting too, just shameful) I try to ignore mean things, but in the absence of anyone to actually talk to, I guess this wa my outlet.
Anyways, today was another day and the sun was shining and only a week till Simon gets home, hurrah and then I'll have some human conversation once again, yay!
Love to you all, I guess I have to go an make good with all I may have scowled at......*blush*.
