I am usually not so thick...but what was 'Life of Pi' about? Where those animals really in the boat with him? Or was the story he told the scientists at the end the real one? If so what about the Meercat bones in his boat??!! I am usually quite insightful but "It's not meant to be taken literally" hasn't quite satisfied me!!Thanks!!

I read this a while back so don't remember allthe details. I think whatever happened once the ship sank and Pi was stranded in the raft, was a mixture of delusion and hysteria taking over his mind...so its dubious whether whatever he narrated from that point on, really happened.

As for the scientists, he pretty much told them what they wanted to hear, I think... maybe because he knew he wouldn't be believed otherwise (especially by scientific people)...

Hope this hasn't confused you more...?
Hi September - I know what you mean!
I think the whole point was that you were left wondering whether it had really happened or not or whether it was all in his mind. It certainly creates discussion hence your question here!

Thanks you guys, most people I have asked have said similar to you, I guess I was hoping that someone, somewhere would KNOW FOR SURE! But I think it probably is just a 'make up your own mind' or an interaction of the truth and fantasy. Thanks for your thoughts though! It helps to know I'm not the only one who was a bit baffled by it! I am reading 'A Scanner Darkly' now in prep for watching it at the cinema on Wednesday...any comments??!! X
