To state the obvious - it must be mid to late20th century or even 21st to have an electric drill.
Why would anyone need a drill? -perhaps ice? behind panelling?
Any more thoughts out there?

So don't worry - I'll give you all a few clues in the next couple of days before I reveal all by Friday - lots of time to send it in. Just to make the fun last a little longer
Clues 1 & 2- It's the first page of the book in question and it was originally a film script that was later turned into a book

Hmmn Ray the Grey... I was just about to suggest Bleedout by Joan Braby, but that was an electric powered pneumatic drill. But that doesn't sound like it fits your clues.

Well done you'all.
I'm still a tad worried about Quarrels 4 as I wonder about the 'thrashing'.
I'd just like to say this has been really good fun. I've always done these on my own before but I look forward to helping out next year.
I don't send in an answer by the way, the last thing I need is 10,000 more books.

Mr Tulliver has a stroke whilst riding home on horseback when he reads a letter from his lawyer indicating that his securities had been transferred to Wakem (another Lawyer). He didn't have a stroke whilst thrashing a lawyer Unless the horse is named 'Lawyer'....... Can't think who else it could be tho..
