There is an absolutely stunning piece, "On the Transmigration of Souls," by John Adams (about 25 minutes long). It was commissioned for the New York Philharmonic and premiered during the orchestra's 2002-03 season.
It is orchestral with some choral bits; the texts are phrases taken from missing-persons posters and memorials posted by Ground Zero. It's quite haunting. It's on the Nonesuch recording # 79816-2; the orchestra's conducted by Lorin Maazel.
