Bad remakes......

There must be piles of great stories crying out to be made into films, yet filmmakers keep remaking classic movies and invariably producing a worse version than the original, eg Rollerball, Italian Job, Get Carter, Wickerman etc etc. Yes I know they probably think it's safe as they where good films originally but now it seems clear that the viewing public are losing patience with the poor quality of these remakes. Why do the suits not have the bottle to take on some new work? What book would like to see made into film? I'll start, there are many but I've just read "The Moon is a harsh Mistress" by Robert Heinlein, I reckon that would make a good plot for a film.

I'd like to see any Michael Connelly novels that involve the character Harry Bosch. If anyone doesn't know him, he's a little bit like an american Frost.
Also any Robert Crais novels that involve the characters Elvis Cole and Joe Pike
And just to finish, any Harlen Coben novels that have Myron Bolitar.
Oh yeah, and it's about time they made a decent fist of a Clive Cussler book!!

The only thing when movies are made from books is that they always turn out infrerior and wrong.

Examples being:

Jeffrey Deaver's The Bone Collector - characters were completely wrong by gender and race.

Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned - characters were again wrong.

Bret Easton Ellis' American Psycho - Christian Bale did a good job, but it wasn't as horrific as the book i.e the rat part.

When The Lion Feeds by Wilbur Smith, and Executive Orders by Tom Clancy. Having said that, I doubt whether the filmmakers could do either novel justice.

I'd love to see a Carl Hiaason made into a film. They'd be superb if done in a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang clever/humourous way

The trouble is with books is they can tantalise the mind, building up a picture in your mind.

No matter how they try once you have read a book a film cannot live up to your expectation books are just to detailed, a film, cannot for instance, convey a characters thought process.

But if you see a film and then read the book I have found it on many occassions an eye opening experiance.

I must say,Trojan, that I saw Sahara and read the book that didn't enhance either. :o)
