DVD player that plays AVI files...

my friend has a cheap dvd player which plays avimovie files from the net. Unfortunately I have searched the net for a dvd player that plays this format and none of them mention AVI. Is it known as anything else? Will a dvd player which palys divx, for example, play avis????

divx is avi. It's just a specific codec for encoding avi files.
So... if it says it'll play divx, it'll play avi
