i thought i read years ago that oprah had written a book and had waited many years to have it made into a film it was called the colour purple.i was in a quiz and one of the questions was who wrote the colour purple my answer was wrong does anyone know what connections oprah had in it besides starring in the film, thanks for looking ,kath

The Color Purple was written by Alice Walker .The film starred Whoopi Goldberg as Celie not Oprah Winfrey....she produced the Broadway show .Oprah has never written a book off her own back as far as I know only co authored self help stuff with others.

Sorry ..Oprah was also in the film ..my mistake ..but she was not the main character ..she played Sofia. and got a nomination for best supporting actress.

She was also involved in the film version of a book called Beloved by Toni Morrison. She had a passion for the story, which dealed with slavery, racism and had a supernatural edge to it, and she also fought for many years to get it made into a movie, and cast herself as the lead character.
