While I echo the welcome return of a Mepham to the Tel crossword pages, am I alone in thinking that some of the clues and answers are really a bit naff (this morning especially) ? -
'Britannia was a royal one ...'
'Third planet from the sun ...'

Have to agree they where fairly basic, but perhaps we should give new compiler a chance to 'gain her feet' ... hopefully it will then improve. The Saturday GK was certainly better than recent weeks.
I was initially thrown by 25d with reference to animals?

I think you are all a lot of moaners. So, your minds are not exercised enough by the new lady - - where would such deficiencies count were you in the line of fire in a battle, as many of our sons and husbands are? What about counting a few blessings? If the lady Kate is indeed a Mepham, should you not be giving her a vote of thanks for getting on with things after the death of a family member? Shame on you!

Nevertheless, a Happy New Year to you all if not too late - I am grateful for any clue I solve!!

However, I guess this is a page for puzzle solvers not somewhere for a philosophical discussion about world combat.

Bruciebaby - you are so right - but not a page for grumbling about the setters of those crosswords! I was appalled at some of the things some people said about Mike Mepham - and KM has only just started... And as you said, JJ, we are all entitled to our opinion....
