The rookery referred to in the Sharpe books was a term used to discribe a slum area not a seperate house, shaneystar2 is right

A bit of further info for you Hovis
The village of Blundeston became Blunderstone the birthplace of David Copperfield. by Dickens. Davids home 'The Rookery' was modelled on the village rectory and the local pub The Plough is the place from which David set out for London.These buildings still stand there today.
This is all quite true as I live very near Blundeston !

I live in Covent Garden and the area around the Seven Dials and St Giles about 200 years ago (and earlier) was called "The Rookery" because thats where all the robbers, highwaymen, pickpockets, prostitutes etc., lived .... nice..
