Name that book

I read a book when I was in school - might have been a young adult literature book - it was basically about a schoolgirl who found that all the other children were taking on Nazi-esque characteristics and a big Third Reich-style cult took over the school. I remember thinking it had relevance at the time (I was what - fourteen, fifteen?) and had to write a short essay on it but can't remember what that book was. Anyone know?

Could it have been The Demon Headmaster by Gillian Cross?

No, it definately wasn't The Demon Headmaster... it was something a lot more dark and serious. It was more of a comment on youth and peers - having to fit into a certain category and unable to be anything else. It was a damn fine book.

Sounds like "The Wave" by Morton Rhue.
