m and a link will take you to the official 'Les Misrables' website, specifically to the page therein which lists all the opening nights since the start on 17th September 1980 in Paris. The very next entry on a long list says it then opened on 8th October 1985 at the Barbican Theatre, London.

(If it didn't even open in Paris until 1980, AB, a late 70s opening in London is a non-starter, I'm afraid. I'm not going to hunt any further, but I don't know whether it ever went on at the Cambridge either.)
