I have a relative who is a major fan of crosswords and word puzzles. He would like a decent dictionary as a Christmas present. Which is the best - Oxford, Chambers or another? (I've read the AB article which says the Oxford is best, but I'd like opinions from you people out there!) Thank you!

If your going to spend around the 25 mark then they are much of a muchness really...The Oxford thumb indexed is the one I would recommend personally.....Though if you check out the TSP website ( http://www.etsp.co.uk/aff2/?aff_id=TD ) you'll find they have a few good bargains at the minute including Chambers for a fiver and a Oxford set of 3 for ten...Don't forget that Collins dictionaries are quite good as well.
Chambers is by far the best single-volume, portable dictionary available here. It is recommended as the dictionary of choice for people who complete the country's most difficult crosswords, such as the 'Azed' in 'The Observer'. One of its great advantages for crossword-solvers is that it contains masses of Scottish and other dialect words. These are great favourites with crossword-compilers, because they more easily confuse the largely standard-English speakers who do the puzzles! If you can get one for a fiver, as Sft suggests...get it!
Don't waste your money, silly, just give them QM's personal email & phone details.
